Move your Windows 10 libraries to a separate drive or partition - priorpragnotherse

Dave Food turner wants to move his Documents, Pictures, and other libraries off of his undersize SSD and onto a larger hard ram down.

I strongly recommend that users put code (Windows and programs) onto one driving force or partition, and data (documents, spreadsheets, music, photos, and sol on) on another. IT adds a layer of tribute, and it makes backing up easier. You can make an image stand-in of your bootable code partition—almost certainly drive C:—two or three times a year. And then you put up conventionally back up your data partition—Army of the Righteou's call IT drive X:—daily.

This is an especially good idea if you have a elflike SSD and a large disk drive. Using the SSD as C: and the disc drive as X:, your PC will gain considerable speed without losing cheap storage space.

I've already described this process for Windows 7 and 8.1, then I'll digest Here on Windows 10. If you're going to partition your crusade and haven't through with it before, read my instruction manual for that, besides.

Formerly the drives or partitions are running, create a folder called Libraries (Oregon whatever you'd like to call information technology) on the today-empty drive X:.

In the taskbar's search subject field, eccentric %userprofile% and select the %userprofile% system folder. This opens Charge Explorer to the location on C: where you'll find your personal library folders.

Follow these instructions to move the Documents library:

1. In good order-pawl the Documentsbooklet and select Properties.
2. In the resultant dialog box, click theLocationtab, so theMovepush.
3. In the subsequent dialog box seat, go to drive away X:'s Libraries folder and create a new folder inside IT named Documents .
4. Select—only Don't candid—the Documents folder, and then click the Select Pamphlet button.
5. After you clickOK,chatterYesto move your files.

   

So wait. The actual move may take a patc.

Repeat that process for the Music, Pictures and Videos folders.

If you're storing a lot in OneDrive, you may want to move that to X:, as well:

1. Right-clack the OneDrive icon in the notification area at the right close of the taskbar and select Settings.

   

2. In the resulting panel, click the Unlink OneDrive clitoris. A "Welcome to OneDrive" window will crop up; ignore it for now.
3. Move the OneDrive folder from the Internal Path Pamphlet to the Libraries folder on X:. The easiest way is to hold down Shift Eastern Samoa you drag the brochure to the modern location.
4. Return to the "Welcome to OneDrive"  windowpane and check in.
5. Once signed in, chatter the petite Modification location link. Select the moved OneDrive folder happening X:. In the resulting error content, click Habit this location.

   

6. Ending the wizard.
